Review: The Normal Heart

  

Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart is a controversial play set in 1980's New York about a group of gay men who wants to fight this, then unknown virus, that kills gay men. That virus is what we know now as HIV or AIDS.

This is such a moving play portrayed by our country's top-notch stage actors and directed by Bert Guingona.

Grabe lang! Dalang dala ako sa play na to. Especially that intimate scene between the two main actors.

It's very moving, compelling and undeniably important. It is such a powerful play that would linger in your thoughts forever. Me and my friend just can't stop talking about it and how it touched us.

The actors are beyond awesome. Topper Fabregas is just the perfect Felix. You could feel the intensity of every scene. The sadness, the despair, the fear, the pain, the love. Oh the love. The kind of love that would make you smile a little bit and cry a little bit.

I love that they show the different sides of gay men. They show the different faces of homosexuality. They show the soft side, the loving side, the fighters, the meek, the closeted, the in denials.

And above all. I love the cause. Did you know that this year, 27 people are getting infected by aids everyday according to statistics? And those are just the detected ones. I hate to admit it but for sure, madami ang undetected carriers. Those who doesn't even realize that they carry it already and is spreading it. Did you know that 95% of the reported cases are men?

Sabi nga on the end of the show, what happened to New York in the 1980's is happening to Manila today. We should fight this. We should educate ourselves. And most of all, get yourselves tested.

Go and watch it. Promise di kayo magsisisi. Sa galing palang ng mga actors, sulit na sulit na.
