Simple Ways to Conserve Water at Home

I’m so glad that people these days are more aware of the importance of caring for the environment. In social media, my friends and other people I follow are all so into sustainable lifestyle and reducing carbon footprints. I think it’s because we’ve seen the horror of the years of abuse we did to mother earth.

We’ve been doing our share kahit dati pa. Small steps. Small things. Like managing our garbage, using reusable straw, conserving electricity, and of course conserving water. Small steps lang but I know I’m making an impact.

Dati pa naman, matipid na kami sa tubig. Probably because my mother grew up na walang sariling linya ng tubig at kailangan mag-igib using kariton everyday. So she’s an expert on how to re-use water and conserve water talaga. And she passed it on to us. She would always remind us to conserve water kasi mahirap mag-igib. Swerte daw kami now that we have Maynilad straight to our faucets.

Also, our visit at Maynilad’s Wastewater Management Facility last year made me realize how much wastewater we produce and how important it is to conserve water and help our environment.

Plus, we all know that conserving water means saving moolah from our water bill. It is more important now because I’ve heard that Maynilad is scheduled to adjust the water tariff this year. While many of you will raise eyebrows because of this increase, I am not in any way annoyed by this because I totally understand that it is inevitable and important.

Every 5 years, Rate Rebasing or the process of water rates adjustment happens. Bukod sa wala na tayong magagawa dun dahil nasa agreement ito, rates needs to be adjusted for the betterment of the water and wastewater services. The adjustment is based on the performance, expenses, earnings, unrecovered investments and service improvement plans of the water concessionaires like Maynilad. Rate Rebasing, in fact, is beneficial to us because the impact on the water tariff paid by consumers would be managed - paunti-unti lang ang pagtaas ng tariff kahit patuloy ang gastos ng Maynilad sa water infrastructure.

And while we see it as burden on our part (Hello? Nanay tayo, lahat ng increase sa bill, masakit sa puso), I say I totally understand it and I’m okay with it because all of this would go towards the improvement of water and wastewater services. S’yempre pagdating sa tubig, gusto ko best ang quality at services para sa pamilya ko. Sa wastewater management facilities pa lang ng Maynilad, super sold na ako eh. So I see this increase as an investment coz I am very sure it’ll help improve the living conditions in our country. And if this little increase would ensure that my children’s life would be better in the future, with improved water and wastewater facilities and services, keriboom boom lang sa akin!

But of course, I won’t take this news sitting down din naman. Kung dati efficient na kami sa paggamit ng tubig, this time we’ll exert extra effort also para masigurong walang nasasayang na tubig. Plus, I will make sure to remind everybody at home to practice these tips in conserving water. Syempre ‘di naman pwede na ako lang nagtitipid. It should be everybody’s responsibility to conserve water. Not just to save money, but most of all, to help save our environment.

And because I love you my dear readers, eto na! Here are my tips in conserving water. Super simple talaga ‘to and for sure, halos di nyo mararamdaman.
